Everyone likes to keep cosy and warm in winter. But have a thought for the possible health impacts of how you choose to heat your home?

The Problem

Some types of underfloor electric heating can have high magnetic and electric fields. Often the fields can be very high, especially for children who often play on the floor. Babies are often placed on the floor to play for hours at a time without a thought to the EMF/ EMR fields. The babies and children do not have a strongly developed immune sysytem as yet, so they are more likely to be adversely affected than adults. Studies have shown that children living in areas with magnetic field readings of 4mG or more are more likely to develop leukaemia. The high magnetic and electric fields associated with some types of underfloor electric heating can also create or exacerbate health issues for anyone depending on amount of exposure and one's current health status.

The Solution

The field cannot be gauged by looking, touching or knowing the model type. If you are going to use this style of heating at least get the EMF/EMR levels checked by Environomics, qualified Building Biologists.
